RAMALLAH, PALESTINE, JUL 19 – The new Palestinian National Council will have 350 members representing Palestinians inside and outside the territories, aiming to restore PLO legislative functions after nearly two decades of inactivity.
- On Saturday, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas issued a decree calling for PNC elections before the end of 2025, Wafa reported.
- Passing a resolution last Thursday, the PLO Executive Committee greenlit PNC elections within the current calendar year, WAFA reported.
- Wafa reported that the PNC will consist of 350 members two-thirds inside the territories and one-third from the diaspora, a preparatory committee led by the PNC head will organize the vote, and the electoral framework is due for approval within two weeks.
- Soon, the PLO Executive Committee chairman will set the precise election date, and Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad will be excluded from the PNC as non-PLO members.
