Palestinian Authority condemns Ben-Gvir over home demolition stunt in Jerusalem
The demolition left around 70 residents homeless as Ben Gvir said Israel had reclaimed the land.
- On Tuesday, Israeli minister Itamar Ben Gvir oversaw the demolition of a five-storey building in al-Tur, East Jerusalem, displacing around 70 people, most of them women and children.
- Authorities demolished the structure citing a lack of building permits, which are rarely granted to Palestinians; so far this year, Israeli authorities have demolished or forced owners to demolish more than 1,800 Palestinian homes.
- Soldiers evicted residents at three in the morning, preventing them from retrieving belongings, and Fayez Khalfawi said, "The entire building was razed, and the contents of every apartment were destroyed."
- The Jerusalem Governorate condemned the demolition as "official incitement," while aid partners provided emergency shelter and essential items to displaced families, marking the highest displacement in a single demolition since 2009.
- Amjad Shihab, a professor at Al-Quds University, described the demolition as part of a campaign to displace Palestinians, noting that Israeli authorities carried out 427 demolitions in Jerusalem between January and the end of September this year.
