Smriti Mandhana’s Friend Files FIR Against Palaash Muchhal Under SC/ST Act over Alleged Casteist Remarks
Police registered the case under the SC/ST Act after the complainant alleged caste-based slurs during a money dispute over a Rs 25 lakh film investment.
Police in Sangli registered a case against music composer Palash Muchhal under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Act following a complaint by Vigyan Prakash Mane, a childhood friend of cricketer Smriti Mandhana, alleging casteist remarks.
Authorities indicate the conflict stems from a financial dispute involving Rs 25 lakh, as Mane alleges Muchhal took the funds to produce a film but failed to complete the project within the promised six months.
The confrontation occurred on November 22, 2025, at a toll plaza on the Sangli-Ashta road, where Mane claims Muchhal used derogatory, caste-based language during an argument regarding the outstanding debt.
Muchhal previously filed a Rs 10 crore defamation suit against Mane in January; his lawyer, Shreyansh Mithare, stated the suit addresses what Muchhal describes as "false" and defamatory accusations.
This legal battle follows the highly publicized cancellation of the wedding between Muchhal and Mandhana in December 2025, and while Muchhal has not provided an official statement regarding the new FIR, police confirmed an investigation is underway.
