Pakistani forces say they killed 75 insurgents after attacks in Balochistan
Pakistani officials said the crackdown followed attacks on police and troops, with 18 officers abducted and later found dead.
On Friday, Pakistani security forces backed by military helicopters killed 75 insurgents during dayslong operations in Balochistan against an outlawed separatist group blamed for attacks on troops, police, and civilians.
Operations began late Monday after dozens of fighters from the Baloch Liberation Army, or BLA, attacked a police post near Mangi Dam, which supplies water to millions in Quetta.
During the initial assault, nine police officers and 15 attackers were killed, while attackers abducted 18 police officers who were later found blindfolded and shot dead.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited Quetta and told families of 42 victims that those responsible would be brought to justice, while the government approved 11.1 million rupees compensation for each slain officer's family.
Pakistan claims the BLA and Pakistani Taliban maintain sanctuaries in Afghanistan and receive support from India, though Kabul and New Delhi deny these allegations regarding the insurgency in Balochistan.
