Pakistan stars Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman remain poor relations as millions are spent at ILT20 auction
The Vipers added three Pakistan internationals for $80,000 each as other franchises spent up to $380,000 on rival players, officials said.
On Thursday, October 1, 2026, the Desert Vipers acquired Pakistan cricket star Babar Azam for his base price of $80,000 at the International League T20 auction held at the ICC Academy.
Focusing on maintaining their title-winning core, the Vipers also secured fellow Pakistanis Fakhar Zaman, Shadab Khan, and Naseem Shah throughout the eight-hour bidding process.
Pakistan's top stars were largely overlooked by other franchises, in contrast to high bids for players like UAE local Muhammad Waseem, who earned a massive $210,000 bid.
Vipers CEO Phil Oliver expressed satisfaction with the team's continuity strategy, noting that adding a high-quality player like Babar provides a significant boost to the squad's top order.
The upcoming ILT20 tournament is scheduled to run from November 22 to December 20, 2026, featuring over 200 players from 23 countries competing for the title.
