Over-the-counter birth control? Drugmaker seeks FDA approval

Summary by Ground News
HRA Pharma, a French drugmaker, has submitted an application to the FDA for the first over-the-counter birth control pill in the U.S. Since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and set off a cascade of abortion bans around the country, access to contraception has taken on increased importance. The FDA has said it aims to make a decision within 10 months once a company submits an application. The company says the timing was unrelated to the Supreme Court's recent decision overturning Roe v. Wade. The FDA faced similar political pressures in 2006 when it approved over-the-counter use of the emergency contraception pill Plan B. Birth control pills are available without a prescription across much of South America, Asia and Africa.
