Over 300 people killed in widespread Israeli strikes over Lebanon, health ministry says

Human Rights Watch said the strikes killed at least 303 people and left the last main bridge linking southern Lebanon with the country damaged.

  • On April 8, 2026, Israeli forces launched more than 100 strikes across Lebanon within ten minutes, killing over 300 people and injuring over 1,150, according to Lebanon's Health Ministry, with strikes hitting densely populated neighborhoods in Beirut.
  • Israeli forces systematically destroyed or damaged main bridges connecting southern Lebanon to the rest of the country between March 12 and April 8, leaving the Qasmieh bridge as the sole remaining operational crossing over the Litani River.
  • The destruction of key bridges has isolated over 150,000 people and is "impeding the delivery of essential supplies, and limiting the ability of civilians to move safely," OCHA stated, with about 71,000 remaining in Tyre as of April 8.
  • Since March 2, at least six hospitals have shut down, the World Health Organization said, forcing staff at Jabal Amel Hospital to travel more than 30 kilometers north to Sidon to obtain medical supplies.
  • The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and former defense minister Yoav Gallant on charges including starvation of civilians in Gaza, while Human Rights Watch urged nations to suspend all arms sales to Israel.
