Oscars: Italy Selects Paolo Strippoli’s Thriller ‘The Spiral’ for International Feature Race
The selection committee cited the thriller’s strong critical reception and its young director’s rising profile after it premiered in competition at Venice.

- A committee of experts chose the film from 21 potential candidates, including Venice competition entries "It Will Happen Tonight" by Nanni Moretti and "Back to Buenos Aires" by Marco Bechis.
- Starring Jasmine Trinca as a mother, the thriller explores a family's unraveling after a shocking revelation, with Trinca's character making a Faustian pact with "The Stranger," played by Valeria Bruni Tedeschi.
- Produced by Rome-based Propaganda with Rai Cinema, the film will be released in Italy by 01 Distribution on October 18.
- The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will announce the shortlist on December 15, with the final selection revealed on January 21, ahead of the March 14 ceremony in Los Angeles.
