Taking on debt or raising taxes due to rising defense spending “is not really possible.” According to Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, Finland is aiming to increase its defense spending to 3.5 percent of GDP by the beginning of the next decade. The current NATO target is two percent of GDP, but the target is very likely to rise to 3.5 percent at the June summit in The Hague.
