Mom Allegedly Told Kids They Were Having Sleepover Before Trying to Kill Them
Police said she called 911 after trying to poison herself and her three children, who were treated and released the next day.
On Saturday evening, Keizer Police arrested 32-year-old Chardonnay Marie Benavidez after she allegedly attempted to kill herself and her three children using carbon monoxide inside their Holly Court Northeast home.
Officers responding to the scene discovered a vehicle in the attached garage with a makeshift apparatus connecting the exhaust pipe to the interior, prompting the Keizer Fire District to vent the dangerous area.
Emergency crews transported all four individuals to Salem Hospital for treatment, where the children were medically cleared and released to their father, Antonio Benavidez, on Sunday.
Benavidez was placed on a physician's hold and seen by psychiatric staff before being booked into the Marion County Correctional Facility on three counts of first-degree attempted murder.
Antonio expressed shock when learning the children were involved, stating he is focused on keeping life "normal for the kids" as they navigate the aftermath.
