Hungary's previous government committed the state to at least HUF 5 trillion in additional motorway concession costs, citing the economic consequences of the war in Ukraine, according to Transport and Investment Minister Dávid Vitézy. Vitézy wrote on Sunday about the wartime investment cost compensation, with which the risks of the Russian-Ukrainian war were taken over from the Mészáros. However, the contract was signed before the outbreak of the war.

According to Dávid Vitézy, one of the amendments to the MKIF highway concession contract increased the state's long-term burden by at least five thousand billion forints. According to the Minister of Transport and Investment, it is particularly controversial that the compensation was introduced citing the economic effects of the war, while the original contract was signed after the Russian invasion.
With the contract amendment, the state assumed a significant part of the additional burden due to the increase in construction prices and interest rates.
