Putellas Moves to English Soccer as Statement Signing by London City Lionesses
The two-time Ballon d'Or winner leaves Barcelona after 14 years and joins the newly promoted club as a major signing.
On Wednesday, two-time Ballon d'Or winner Alexia Putellas joined London City Lionesses in a major signing for the fast-growing English Super League club.
Putellas departed Barcelona after 14 years, where she won four Champions League titles and claimed the 2023 World Cup with Spain before her contract expired in June.
Owner Michele Kang leads London City Lionesses, the only independent women's team in the WSL, after the club finished sixth in the 12-team division in their debut 2025 season.
Putellas said, "I am thrilled to embark on this new chapter," and expressed determination to challenge for titles with the Lionesses.
Beyond competition, Putellas plans to work with Michele in elevating women's football in England, stating, "I look forward to making an impact on the pitch.
