BJP Leader Jagannath Pradhan Arrested Over Assault On Officer In Odisha
- On Thursday evening in Bhubaneswar, BJP leader Jagannath Pradhan was taken into custody in connection with an incident involving an attack on a serving officer of the Odisha Administrative Service.
- The arrest followed growing demands and protests by Odisha bureaucrats after a group of men assaulted BMC Additional Commissioner Ratnakar Sahoo last week during a grievance session.
- Pradhan, who has been a BJP candidate since 2014 without success and narrowly missed victory in the 2024 assembly election by a margin of 37 votes, pledged his full cooperation with the legal proceedings following a meeting with Odisha BJP president Manmohan Samal.
- More than 3,600 officials, including 2,400 from the Odisha Administrative Services, were on strike for three days, which partially paralyzed public services until Pradhan's arrest led to the strike's suspension.
- Pradhan stated he respects the law and will cooperate fully, asserting his arrest could help resolve the issue, while Samal condemned the attack and said the state government would decide further steps.
