Nvidia Will Help Build 7 AI Supercomputers for for DoE
The Solstice and Equinox systems will deliver a combined 2,200 exaFLOPs of AI compute power to advance research across national security, healthcare, and energy sectors.
- On Tuesday, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang announced Solstice, a DOE supercomputer with 100,000 Blackwell GPUs, and said, `Together with Oracle, we're building the Department of Energy's largest supercomputer that will serve as America's engine for discovery`.
- The Department of Energy is partnering with Nvidia and Oracle to accelerate scientific research and develop agentic AI for national security, materials and nuclear science, energy modeling and biomedical research.
- Nvidia will build seven new supercomputers including Equinox , which is expected next year and will yield 2,200 exaFLOPs combined with Argonne National Laboratory.
- The labs will make the systems available to outside researchers, with Mission handling classified national security workloads on HPE's Cray Supercomputing GX5000 platform, LANL director Thom Mason said.
- Amid growing demand for AI chips, Nvidia has $500bn in bookings, and Jensen Huang said it needs $50bn Chinese market sales to fund US R&D, while Los Alamos National Laboratory adds Vera Rubin systems.
