Parents charged with murder of three-month-old son in north London
Parents were initially charged with causing or allowing serious harm before being charged with murder after their three-month-old son died in hospital, police said.
- Today at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court, Dounia Chetaouat, 32, and Abdelkader Essid, 44, are charged with murdering their three-month-old son who died on February 17.
- Metropolitan Police said officers and paramedics responded to Kingsway, North Finchley just after 11.30am on January 30 for an unresponsive baby, with Chetaouat and Essid arrested later that day.
- Emergency first aid was given at the property before the infant was transported to hospital with serious injuries, and detectives appealed for information via 101, @MetCC on X, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
- Court and coroner procedures are now under way, with both suspects remanded into custody following charges and a post-mortem scheduled, Scotland Yard said.
- Media reports named the parents while the infant remains anonymised, with Chetaouat of North Finchley and Essid of Finchley cited by police.
