Nigeria: ICPC Report - Atiku Demands Names of Villa Insiders Behind Fake Agency Scandal
The commission recommended prosecution of the alleged director-general and sanctions for public officers after finding forged documents, impersonation and two more fictitious agencies.
- On Thursday, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission submitted an interim report to President Bola Tinubu confirming the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council is fictitious, exactly 30 days after the probe was ordered.
- Exploiting weaknesses in government oversight, Adeniyi Adeyemi forged presidential documents and broke into the former Presidential Economic Advisory Council office to establish the fraudulent agency.
- Beyond the PFIPC, the commission uncovered two additional fake agencies: the FCT Investment Promotion Agency and Foreign Investment Promotion Agency and Public Private Partnership. The Federal Road Safety Corps issued seven official government number plates to the council after verifying falsified documents.
- ICPC Chairman Musa Aliyu recommended prosecuting Adeyemi for forgery and impersonation, alongside administrative sanctions for public officials whose negligence facilitated the illegal operations as investigations continue.
- Presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar criticized the report as shielding "shadow operatives," demanding a live-broadcast public hearing to expose officials who allegedly facilitated the fraud rather than accepting the interim findings as exoneration.
