Nigeria: DSS Captures Sixth Owo Church Attacker

  • Gunmen stormed a Celestial Church of Christ parish in Uso, Owo Local Government Area, Ondo State, and abducted six worshippers, renewing security concerns along the Akure-Owo highway corridor.
  • Amid a string of recent violent incidents in Ondo State, the abduction follows a kidnapping at Ilu-Abo community four days earlier and the recent shooting of Oba Kehinde Falodun, the Alagamo of Agamo.
  • DSP Abayomi Jimoh said the attackers struck at about 12:50 a.m., storming the parish during an early-morning prayer session and firing sporadically before whisking victims to an unknown destination.
  • Police warned that operations continue to recover remaining victims and arrest other gang members, with a suspect arrested and providing statements aiding investigations, the police said.
  • Following the report, police and security partners launched coordinated rescue operations, and the Ondo Police Command urged residents to remain calm and share credible information.
