Maurice Kamto, a high-profile critic of Cameroon's long-running President Paul Biya has been excluded by electoral authorities from the list of approved candidates able to run in the 12 October presidential vote.
Although they have not been authenticated, viral audio recordings on the internet accredit the thesis of a plot to remove the Manidem candidate from the presidential race. On Saturday, 26 July, Elécam, the Cameroonian electoral council, decided to reject Maurice Kamto's candidacy for the October 12 ballot, justifying his decision by the fact that another individual also presented himself under the banner of his formation.
