New York man charged after elderly central Pa. woman loses $555K in gold bar scam

A New York man suspected of belonging to an international fraud ring posed as a federal employee and stole over $555,000 in gold bars from an elderly woman’s Lancaster County home, police said. Zhong Ren, 44, of Brooklyn, was charged with theft by unlawful taking, theft by deception, impersonating a public servant, and two counts of conspiracy, according to court documents filed by Ephrata police July 10.
