Swapping his monk's habit for overalls and a sun hat, Father Christian-Marie knelt alongside volunteers in the freshly dug earth, planting grape vines to replace those damaged by wildfires that swept through central Israel earlier this year.
A severe fire at the end of April ravaged one third of the vineyards and 20% of the olive trees of the Trappist monastery of Latroun, near Jerusalem. Founded by French monks 135 years ago, the monastery lives from the production of wine and olive oil.
