New RBI ATM Transaction Rules From May 1: Top Banks Including HDFC Bank, PNB Notify New Charges
- The Reserve Bank of India announced that starting May 1, 2025, ATM transaction fees beyond free monthly limits will increase to ₹23 per transaction nationwide.
- This fee hike follows rising operational, maintenance, and cybersecurity costs, and applies to all commercial banks, regional rural banks, and authorized ATM operators across metro and non-metro areas.
- Customers currently receive five free monthly transactions at their own bank’s ATMs and three free transactions at other banks’ ATMs in metro cities, covering both financial and non-financial transactions.
- Shikhar Aggarwal, Chairman of BLS E-Services, said this increase may burden frequent users but also create growth opportunities for fee-free MicroATMs and Business Correspondents in rural and semi-urban areas.
- The fee revision aims to maintain ATM service viability while encouraging digital and rural banking reforms, which include the concurrent consolidation of 26 Regional Rural Banks into 11 entities to improve efficiency and financial inclusion.
