- Amid a bizarre grievance, the suspect claimed he was upset over a four-year-old eggplant sandwich incident, alleging it made him ill due to an allergy.
- Moneer Simrin, a friend of the victims, recounted that surveillance footage showed the attacker confronting a female cashier and then launching into a rant about a missing hot dog and a long-forgotten eggplant sandwich.
