Tamil Nadu CM Vijay Gives MLAs a Major Boost with New Allowances, Official Vehicles
The move adds monthly payments of ₹75,000 for vehicle costs and ₹25,000 for assistants to help MLAs serve constituencies.
- On Wednesday, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay announced that all MLAs will receive official vehicles and assistants to conduct constituency work efficiently and ensure government schemes reach residents.
- This initiative follows a request from Jothimani of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi , who argued that many new legislators lack financial backgrounds to afford transportation or staff needed to address local grievances.
- The government will provide Rs 75,000 monthly for driver salary, fuel, and vehicle maintenance, while each MLA's office receives Rs 25,000 monthly to hire a secretary for official work.
- Vijay also increased annual coverage under the Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 25 lakh and raised Aavin's milk procurement price from Rs 38 to Rs 41 per litre.
- These measures enable legislators to operate independently in remote areas, fulfilling the pledge TVK candidates made on March 29, 2026, to provide transparent administration and prioritize residents' needs without external support.
