Neutrogena Makeup Remover wipes recalled over bacteria fears
- On October 27, 2025, Neutrogena announced a voluntary recall of more than 15,000 packages of Makeup Remover Ultra-Soft Cleansing Towelettes, with Kenvue Brands removing the product after an FDA assessment.
- Tests found Pluralibacter gergoviae in some wipes, a bacterium linked to water and soil that resists preservatives commonly used in cosmetics, while infections from P. gergoviae are rare.
- Lot number 1835U6325A covers the recalled Neutrogena Makeup Remover Ultra-Soft Cleansing Towelettes, 50-count, 25-pack, shipped to Texas, Georgia, South Carolina and Florida in 1,312 cases.
- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration classified the recall as a Class II recall, and Kenvue Brands said it acted `out of an abundance of caution`; consumers who purchased the product should check lot numbers and discard or return affected packages.
- Although infections from Pluralibacter gergoviae are rare, the bacterium can cause severe complications in vulnerable populations, with industry trend of recalls for potential contamination.
