Netanyahu says Israel will get to the 'root' of co-pilot in foiled bid to crash flydubai flight
Israeli officials said 174 people were aboard and the captain fought back, allowing passengers and crew to overpower the attacker and land safely.
On Wednesday, FlyDubai suspended flights to Israel after a co-pilot stabbed the pilot aboard a flight to Tel Aviv, forcing an emergency landing in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia.
The co-pilot sent the jet plunging nearly 14,000 feet in less than 30 seconds, prompting passengers and crew to enter the cockpit and overpower him before a second pair of FlyDubai pilots landed safely.
All 174 people on board arrived safely at Ben Gurion Airport on Wednesday, where Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met passenger Yaniv Hayun, who his office said broke into the cockpit.
Authorities are investigating the Omani co-pilot's motive while Netanyahu's spokesperson said Israel will 'tighten checks' on all pilots flying into the country.
This incident occurs amid normalized relations under the 2020 Abraham Accords, prompting security minister Itamar Ben-Gvir to write, 'Terrorism is a devil with whom no agreement must be reached.
