- A backlog of 61,988 new applicants and over 100,000 Veterans lack Veteran Readiness and Employment services, with the VA Hotline shut down, as of Thursday.
- In addition, 56 VA regional benefits offices are closed to the public while burials continue at 157 VA national cemeteries and VA medical centers, clinics and Vet Centers remain open with furloughed federal employees typically receiving back pay.
- The number of affected employees is expected to grow daily as the shutdown continues with no end in sight, even as VA benefits including compensation, pension, education and housing continue to be processed and delivered.
