Illinois Drivers May See Increased Police Presence Along Roadways This Week
NORTH CAROLINA, JUL 21 – The campaign targets speeding and aggressive driving to reduce nearly 400 deaths and thousands of injuries caused by speed-related crashes in 2024, officials said.
- On Monday, the North Carolina Governor's Highway Safety Program and statewide law enforcement agencies launched the `Speeding Catches Up With You` campaign, which runs July 21–27.
- With speed-related incidents so severe, in 2024 such crashes resulted in nearly 400 deaths and thousands of preventable injuries.
- Officers will focus on identifying and stopping drivers who exceed posted speed limits or engage in aggressive driving behavior, `Speeding remains one of the leading causes of serious injuries and fatalities on our roads,` said Mark Ezzell, and drivers should expect increased law enforcement presence from July 21–27.
- Drivers are encouraged to obey posted speed limits, allow extra time and avoid distractions, `Every mile per hour over the speed limit puts lives at risk,` said Sheriff Bill Rogers, and `This campaign isn't about writing tickets,` he added.
- As part of its ongoing safety efforts, the Governor's Highway Safety Program runs this campaign alongside year-round education, enforcement and community partnerships designed to highlight the dangers of speeding and remind drivers that obeying posted limits can save lives.
