In 1890, first class rooms were available for $1.50 a day, and the hotel had a reputation for sumptuous fare. In 1905, a man named John Pratt hosted Christmas dinner with delicacies including oyster soup, lobster salad, ox tongue, English Plum Pudding with brandy sauce and MacLaren cheese.
