BBC Rebooting Agatha Christie’s Poirot as New Leading Man Announced
The six-part series will adapt three Agatha Christie stories and trace Poirot’s early ties to Hastings and Japp.
The BBC and BritBox have cast British actor Edward Bluemel as the lead in 'Hercule,' a new six-part drama series exploring the early years of Agatha Christie's famous Belgian detective.
Produced by Mammoth Screen and written by Benji Walters, the show is described as an 'intimate study of Hercule the man and an epic portrait of Britain between the wars.'
Aged just 33, Bluemel becomes the youngest actor to embody the sleuth on screen, succeeding David Suchet, who played the character for more than 20 years, and John Malkovich.
Filming begins this summer in Liverpool, with the narrative charting the detective's burgeoning friendship with Captain Arthur Hastings and early encounters with Scotland Yard's James Japp.
Set to premiere on BBC iPlayer and BBC One in the UK, the series will debut on BritBox in North America, with reports indicating a three-season commitment for the project.
The new Hercule Poirot will be played by 33-year-old Edward Bluemel, who will appear in the six-part first season of Agatha Christie's famous detective next year. The new series will follow Poirot's early years and his first investigations.
