Murder investigation under way after human remains found in woodland in Feltham
Tests confirmed the remains were human, and detectives are trying to identify a woman believed to be 25 to 45 years old.
Following a post-mortem examination on Monday, the Metropolitan Police launched a murder investigation after human remains were discovered near Padstow Walk in Feltham on Wednesday, August 12.
The woodland site, known locally as The Pits and adjacent to Bedfont Lakes Country Park, was discovered after officers responded to reports on August 12. Residents claim recent wildfires uncovered the remains, though the London Fire Brigade has not confirmed this link.
Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Jolley confirmed officers are working to identify the woman and establish how long her remains were at the location. A police crime scene is expected to remain in place for several weeks.
Jolley urged anyone with information to "come forward and speak to us." Witnesses should contact the Met Police on 101 quoting CAD 6452/12AUG, or reach Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
Authorities are keeping an open mind while investigating the full circumstances of the death, with Scotland Yard treating the site as a priority. Forensic examination of the charred woodland ground remains essential to the ongoing inquiry.
