Murder investigation launched after woman dies and nine people injured in fire

On Wednesday, August 19, 2026, the Metropolitan Police launched a murder investigation after a 48-year-old woman died and eight others were hospitalized following a fatal fire in Hounslow.
Officers responded to a blaze on Berkeley Avenue shortly after 1 a.m., where police believe the fire may have been started deliberately based on preliminary investigation.
A 48-year-old woman died in hospital, while another woman, 40, remains in life-threatening condition; six men and one woman were discharged with minor injuries.
Detective Chief Inspector Neil John is leading the ongoing inquiry, and forensic officers are working at the residential property, though no arrests have been made.
DCI John described the fire as an isolated incident but acknowledged it will cause concern within the local community, stating "Our thoughts are first and foremost with the victim's family.
