The Netherlands will have to double its investment budget to approximately €280 billion to get Dutch infrastructure in order, according to a study by consultancy firm BCG. If the government doesn’t step up, motorists in many parts of the country will face prolonged road closures and traffic jams in years to come, the Association of Dutch Municipalities (VNG) and the Introprovincial Consultation (IPO) warn based on a separate study.
Much infrastructure in the Netherlands is so outdated that municipalities and provinces are concerned about the accessibility of the country. In our region, too, several bridges require significant maintenance, but this requires more money than initially anticipated.
Motorists can expect prolonged road closures in many parts of the Netherlands in the coming years if municipalities and provinces do not receive more funding to renovate outdated bridges, tunnels, quays, and locks. The Association of Netherlands Municipalities (VNG) and the Interprovincial Consultation (IPO) warn of this.
