Mumbai Indians appoints Zubin Bharucha as Director of Performance
Mumbai Indians appointed former Rajasthan Royals cricket head Zubin Bharucha as their new Director of Performance. He will work with the franchise's existing leadership to strengthen player pathways and maintain elite T20 standards.
Bharucha spent nearly two decades with Rajasthan Royals before two seasons with Delhi Daredevils in 2016 and 2017. He is widely recognized for developing talents like Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal during his tenure.
Working alongside head coach Mahela Jayawardene, Bharucha has already started his role and is currently touring South Africa with assistant coach Paras Mhambrey and young Mumbai Indians players.
Missing the playoffs in four of the last six seasons, Mumbai Indians have struggled to maintain their championship form. Bharucha's appointment aims to solve performance issues and help the franchise challenge for the IPL title.
Bharucha will build on Mumbai Indians' "established approach to delivering sustained excellence in player development," a franchise statement said. He will focus on off-season training for Indian players, leveraging his data-driven methods.
Zubin Bharucha will work alongside head coach Mahela Jayawardene and the existing coaching staff at Mumbai Indians. His responsibilities will extend beyond just the senior team to the entire MI cricketing ecosystem and player development.
