MP accused of sexual assault at London nightclub denies 'fist pumping in celebration' after alleged groping
Patrick Spencer told jurors he did not deliberately touch either woman and said he was drunk but not out of control.
On July 15, Conservative MP Patrick Spencer pleaded not guilty to two counts of sexual assault, testifying he was "pissed" but "not out of control" during the Groucho Club incident.
The alleged assaults occurred on August 12, 2023, after Spencer attended a rugby match at Twickenham with his father, billionaire Conservative donor Lord Michael Spencer, before visiting the club that evening.
Jurors viewed CCTV footage showing the incidents; one alleged victim testified she "froze" after feeling her breasts touched, while Spencer denied trying to "cop a feel," claiming he was merely "overfriendly" and "gregarious."
Confronted with CCTV evidence, Spencer apologized for a "moment of complete stupidity," admitting his actions looked "leery," and revealed he returned to the Groucho Club the following week for his aunt's 70th birthday celebration.
The trial continues at Southwark Crown Court, where Spencer faces two allegations of sexual assault; his barrister Eleanor Laws KC questioned him on intent to demonstrate the defense maintains his actions lacked sexual motivation.
