More Tube disruption as RMT union talks collapse
Tube strikes over pay and hours have suspended nearly all services, causing a 31% rise in London Overground and Elizabeth line use as commuters seek alternatives.
- Nearly all London Underground services were suspended during industrial action by members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union, who are striking over pay and conditions, including wanting a 32-hour working week.
- Transport for London said the union's demands are unaffordable and has offered RMT members a pay increase of 3.4%, but argued that reducing their work week to 32 hours would cost hundreds of millions of pounds.
- An RMT organiser said the cost would "not be near hundreds of millions to make real progress" and hoped for "meaningful discussions" with TfL to resolve the dispute this week.
