Rescuers battled a large-scale wildfire on a mountain near the Ecuadorian capital Quito on Friday, using four helicopters to extinguish it, France 24 reports. Dozens of people were evacuated due to the fire.
Strong winds and vegetation dried up by the lack of rain fuelled the fire that broke out on Thursday on Mount Casitagua, in northern Quito. Helicopter overflights are concentrated on the top, from which there are large columns of smoke, visible from several points in the capital where it has not rained for more than a month.
