Germany plans to spend 3.5% of GDP on defence by 2029 Berlin, 23 Jun (dpa) – Germany’s Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil has plans for defence spending to reach 3.5% of gross domestic product (GDP) by 2029, as he learned today. Social Democrat Klingbeil plans to borrow more than €17 billion ($195 billion) for this year’s national budgets and 2026, according to sources consulted. Federal Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil (SPD) has completed his budgeting by 2029. It is due to be decided in the cabinet on Tuesday. A lot of investment is to be made - for this the debt will grow to record levels.
