It is only a matter of time before uninvolved victims become victims, warns the justice senator in the face of the widespread firearms in criminal circles. The Senate wants to take action against this.
According to the Berlin Senate, buying, possessing or trading firearms without permission should constitute a crime and not an offence. The state government wants to achieve a corresponding tightening through the Federal Council.
The Berlin Senate has approved a proposal to tighten gun laws regarding the illegal possession of pistols and other firearms. Currently, possession of these illegal weapons is classified only as a misdemeanor, not a felony. Justice Senator Felor Badenberg (CDU) and Interior Senator Iris Spranger (SPD) demanded that this be changed in the federal gun ownership law following the Senate meeting.
