According to the Berlin Senate, buying, possessing or trading firearms without permission should constitute a crime and not an offence. The state government wants to achieve a corresponding tightening through the Federal Council.

The Berlin Senate has approved a proposal to tighten gun laws regarding the illegal possession of pistols and other firearms. Currently, possession of these illegal weapons is classified only as a misdemeanor, not a felony. Justice Senator Felor Badenberg (CDU) and Interior Senator Iris Spranger (SPD) demanded that this be changed in the federal gun ownership law following the Senate meeting.
