CROATIA is blocking Montenegro's accession negotiations with the EU due to unresolved issues such as war crimes and the border. This jeopardizes Podgorica's plan to become a member of the Union by 2028.
Montenegro hopes to complete negotiations with the European Union (EU) by the end of this year and become the 28th member of the community in 2028. Although Russia is trying to influence the country's politics, and more than half of the population is in favor of maintaining at least some ties with Moscow, Montenegro's Minister for European Affairs Maida Gorčevič has no doubts: "Montenegro will never become another Orban-type state."
Croatia is the last country to join the EU, and as it currently treats the region, it will do everything to stay that way for a long time. Zagreb practically does not hide that it will maximally blackmail neighboring countries, especially Serbia and Montenegro, in order to fulfill all its interests and take full advantage of the fact that the decision on EU enlargement currently requires the vote of all 27 members.
