Airline passengers will soon only be entitled to compensation if they are delayed by four hours. On Thursday, EU ministers agreed to a proposal that significantly strips down the current scheme. "A monstrous plan," say the Consumers' Association and claims agency EUclaim. However, the airlines are also dissatisfied: the compromise does not go far enough for them.
The booking of a flight has become complex, in particular because of the increase in the additional charges charged by airlines for services formerly standard, ranging from suitcase to seat choice. In future, airline passengers would only be entitled to compensation if their flight is delayed by four hours. This is evident from a compromise reached by European transport ministers in Luxembourg on Thursday. They still have to reach an agreement with the European Parliament.
