Missouri’s back-to-school tax holiday is Aug. 7-9. Here’s what you can buy
Shoppers can save on qualifying school supplies, clothing and computers as the holiday exempts state and local sales tax on items with price caps.
- On Monday, the Missouri Department of Revenue announced the annual Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday, running from 12:01 a.m. on Aug. 7 through midnight on Aug. 9.
- During this period, the State exempts qualifying items such as Clothing, Computers, and School supplies from all state and local sales taxes for any eligible purchase.
- Retail sales of Clothing up to $100, School supplies up to $50, and personal Computers up to $1,500 per item are exempt, according to the news release.
- Qualifying Computer software and graphing calculators are exempt if they do not exceed $350 and $150 respectively, though items like watches and sporting equipment remain taxable.
- Anyone may participate in the holiday, as you do not need to be a Missouri resident or student to save on eligible purchases during the event.
