Nigeria: Army Foil Bandits' Ambush, Recover Ak-47 in Plateau
Troops recovered an AK-47 rifle, a magazine and two rounds of ammunition after the ambush, the army said.
- On August 10, Nigerian Army troops of Operation Enduring Peace neutralized two suspected terrorists and recovered an AK-47 rifle during an operation in Nwur village, Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
- The army reported that troops launched the operation after an arrested bandit confessed to criminal activities and led them to Nwur to recover a weapon he had allegedly concealed there.
- Troops came under attack upon approaching the village and responded with fire, neutralizing two attackers; the arrested suspect accompanying the troops was also killed, while no military personnel was injured.
- In a separate incident along the Riyom-Abuja highway, troops rescued seven travelers abducted near Sopp village after forcing kidnappers to flee. Troops continue search operations to locate other bandit group members.
- These operations occur amid renewed security concerns in Plateau State, where gunmen recently ambushed a joint patrol in Riyom Local Government Area, killing a police inspector and a Nigerian Air Force corporal.
