MetaOptics to Deploy its Direct Laser Writer at the University of Arizona's Center of Semiconductor Manufacturing to Advance its U.S. Expansion
The system will support 4-inch wafer prototyping and small-volume production as MetaOptics seeks user feedback and technical validation in the U.S.
On Wednesday, MetaOptics Ltd announced an agreement to deploy its Direct Laser Writer system at the University of Arizona's Center of Semiconductor Manufacturing by 2027, advancing the Company's U.S. expansion strategy.
The DLW will anchor a "mini foundry" at the University for small-volume, quick turnaround prototyping, designed for a 4-inch wafer to enable rapid metalens sample fabrication within weeks.
MetaOptics Executive Chairman Thng Chong Kim said the deployment "strengthen technical validation" and serves as a demonstration site where prospective distributors and research institutions can physically witness the equipment in operation.
The installation supports collaborative research and evaluation under the guidance of Dr. Krishna Muralidharan of the University's Department of Materials Science and Engineering, positioning the Group to support emerging U.S. initiatives in silicon photonics.
By leveraging Arizona's fast-growing semiconductor ecosystem, the Company aims to deepen engagement with industry partners and end customers, showcasing advanced metalens manufacturing capabilities to potential collaborators.
