Meta launches Muse personal AI
The free app offers 100 million tokens a week and can open browsers, fill forms, book travel and send email for users.
- On Tuesday, Meta announced Muse, a personal AI agent developed under chief AI officer Alexandr Wang that can execute tasks and plan projects for users. Initially available on Android and the web, the tool marks Meta's next step toward artificial intelligence-enabled superintelligence.
- Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg touted Muse in his recent 6,500-word manifesto as a major step toward "personal superintelligence." Zuckerberg envisions an assistant that helps users "accomplish their goals, pursue their passions, build things that they never would have built if they didn't have the technology."
- Muse runs on Muse Secure, a dedicated virtual machine housing the agent and user data. A separate system called Sentinel manages internet access and permissions, determining whether to allow, block, or request user approval for specific actions.
- Meta offers a free tier with access to 100 million tokens weekly, alongside $20 and $100 monthly subscription options. Wang told Axios these paid tiers help cover compute costs, with the company exploring commerce opportunities for additional revenue.
- Mainstream adoption depends on whether users will grant an AI agent access to personal data amid privacy concerns. Meta faces scrutiny following recent incidents in which OpenClaw deleted files from a Mac after gaining email access.
