Mercadona Will Buy 180,000 Tons of Potatoes of National Origin This Year, 30% More than in 2024

Mercadona starts this month the summer potato campaign with a forecast purchase of 180,000 tons of national origin this tuber from all the producing areas, a figure that represents an increase of more than 30% compared to the 2024 campaign.This increase is attributed mainly to the impulse of the winter campaign of the green potato, a variety that is grown between August and December and that allows to have potato during the winter months.

Mercadona is launching its summer potato campaign this month with a forecast purchase of 180,000 tons of this tuber from all producing areas, a figure that represents an increase of more than 30% compared to the 2024 campaign. In the Basque Country, specifically, the chain intends to market more than 2,600 tons from fields in Álava, where it maintains a stable agreement with the local supplier Udapa.

The company will offer high quality Spanish potato up to 8 months a year thanks to its commitment to the summer campaign and the winter campaign.

More than 45,000 tons will come from the fields of Seville, Malaga and Almeria
