Melissa Gilbert supports husband Timothy Busfield in court on child sex abuse charges
Melissa Gilbert submitted a letter supporting her husband Timothy Busfield during a New Mexico detention hearing as he faces child sex abuse charges and passed a polygraph test, defense said.
- On Tuesday, a Bernalillo County judge ordered actor Timothy Busfield be released from jail pending trial, and Melissa Gilbert, actress and Busfield's wife, attended the hearing in Albuquerque and sat behind him.
- According to the criminal complaint, the Albuquerque Police Department issued a warrant on Jan. 9 after an investigator said one twin boy disclosed inappropriate touching by Busfield on The Cleaning Lady set.
- Busfield's defense submitted two audio recordings where children deny inappropriate touching, included 75 letters of support and an independent polygraph test they say he passed, and argued allegations followed role losses.
- Prosecutors argued Busfield poses `serious and ongoing danger not only to the named victims, but any child in his proximity` and faces up to 15 years if convicted, the Bernalillo County District Attorney's Office said.
- Busfield is due back in court on Jan. 29 for a preliminary examination, while NBC pulled a Law & Order: SVU episode set for Jan. 22 and he was edited out of Amazon MGM film You Deserve Each Other.
