If one characteristic defines the Gaza Strip, it is the generosity of its land. Historically, both farmers and ordinary Palestinians have been nourished by fruits, vegetables, nuts and cereals that, in abundance, gather from their fertile crops. Now, Israel, which is using hunger as a weapon of war, has also curbed access to arable plots in such a way that only 1.5 per cent of them are available to Palestinians.
