McDonald’s is serving fried apple pie again for America’s 250th birthday
The limited-time return includes all-day availability and a 35-foot Route 66 monument, McDonald's said.
- McDonald announced on Tuesday it is bringing back fried apple pies for a limited time starting June 23 to honor America's 250th birthday.
- Franchisee Litton Cochran first developed the rectangle-shaped pie in Tennessee in 1968, the same year McDonald introduced the Big Mac hamburger.
- Featuring 100% American-grown apples, McDonald serves 170 million annually, while the fried version contains 10 fewer calories than the baked pie.
- To celebrate, McDonald is installing a 35-foot monument along Route 66 in Joliet, Illinois, which will stand through July 4.
- Other fast food chains are offering semiquincentennial treats: Burger King debuted its Firecracker Cookie Pie, Sonic offers a slush float for $2.50, and Hardee has a Star-Spangled Biscuit.
