MAYOR BRANDON JOHNSON ANNOUNCES BUILD BETTER TOGETHER

On March 27, 2025, Mayor Brandon Johnson announced Build Better Together, a comprehensive economic development strategy, at the groundbreaking for the adaptive reuse of 79 W. Monroe St. Into 117 mixed-income housing units.
The Build Better Together initiative is built upon three foundational pillars: quality and affordable housing, business innovation and job growth, and neighborhood investments and vibrant communities.
This initiative aims to drive inclusive and sustainable growth by transforming programs, policies, and processes, strengthening public-private partnerships and cross-collaboration among city departments like DPD, DOH, DCASE and BACP, and building upon programs like the Cut the Tape program initiated in December 2023.
According to Mayor Johnson, Build Better Together will maximize connections between stakeholders and accelerate infrastructure development to foster continuous improvement, while BACP Commissioner Ivan Capifali stated that the initiative is a "game-changer" for supporting the city's 50,000-plus small businesses.
Build Better Together aims to strengthen Chicago's existing assets, accelerate affordable housing development, streamline business licensing, support the arts and culture, and attract businesses and residents, building on Chicago's recognition as a Top Metro in the U.S. For Corporate Relocation and over $5 billion in investment, with 140 companies choosing to expand, relocate, or launch in Chicagoland.
