Lawsuit by 2 Women Accuses Ex-Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz of Sex Trafficking
The complaint says text messages and other evidence support claims that Gaetz and Greenberg coordinated payments, drugs and travel for commercial sexual acts.
- On Monday, two women filed a federal civil lawsuit in the Middle District of Florida accusing former Florida Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz, former Seminole County Tax Collector Joel Greenberg, and former Florida House member Christopher Dorworth of participating in an alleged sex trafficking scheme.
- The 33-page complaint alleges the trio coordinated recruitment of vulnerable women identified as Jane Doe 1 and Jane Doe 2 to "facilitate sexual encounters" using drugs and travel between 2017 and January 2019.
- Plaintiffs' attorney Spencer Kuvin stated that text messages and other evidence support their claims, which draw on a House Ethics Committee investigation that previously found "substantial evidence" of misconduct.
- Gaetz denied the allegations in a statement, saying the lawsuit relies on a Congressional Committee report that "didn't allow me to confront my accusers" and stating, "I look forward to taking the plaintiffs' depositions."
- Greenberg is currently serving an 11-year federal prison sentence following a 2021 conviction for sex trafficking of a minor; this legal action revives a scandal that derailed Gaetz's nomination as U.S. Attorney General and prompted his 2024 resignation.
